Head of Standards
Pay.UK

David is the Head of Standards at Pay.UK, providing steer and oversight for all messaging standards developed and maintained for UK retail payments. Much of his role focuses on unlocking the benefits that an increase in quality and quantity of data can bring to everyone: from including structured remittance data for businesses’ e-invoicing, to tax codes that improve tax data accuracy; from introducing purpose codes that help identify suspect fraudulent payments sooner to payment tracking that provides certainty a payment has been made.

His team at Pay.UK have published several “collections” of standards materials that will be needed for implementing the ISO 20022 standard into the New Payments Architecture (NPA) – the forthcoming, new UK infrastructure that will revolutionise the way retail payments are made. But beyond clearing and settlement, his team also actively engages with many beneficiaries of standardised information, to understand how improved data quality can reduce the daily challenges that individuals and businesses face, domestically and internationally.

Having completed his Ph.D in physics at St. Andrews, David has worked in several organisations: most recently, before Pay.UK, he worked as the Lead Supervisor on a Tier 1 international bank at the Bank of England’s Prudential Regulation Authority.
