Travelling from abroad?

If you are planning to visit the UK, you may need to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before you travel. The process is simple and can be completed online or through the official app.

How to apply

1. Download the app from Google Play or the Apple App Store.

2. Provide your contact and passport details, upload a suitable photo, and answer a short set of questions.

3. When you travel, make sure you use the same passport you used for your ETA application.

When to apply

Most applicants will receive an automatic decision within minutes when using the ETA app. However, the government recommends applying at least three working days before your travel date to allow enough time for processing.

If your application is rejected or refused

If your ETA application is rejected, you will be told the reason and can submit a new application.
If your application is refused, you cannot appeal the decision. Instead, you will need to apply for a visa before travelling to the UK.
